The Cost of a Custom Steam Shower

It’s no secret that a steam shower can cost quite a bit, but that’s because you’re getting more than just a regular shower. It’s not a new way to shower, but a healthier way to shower; however, if you’re looking to lower the price a bit then consider getting a custom steam shower for yourself. Cutting a few corners can save you some serious coin.

Initial Costs

Initial costs can run up a pretty impressive bill very quickly depending on the type of steam shower you’re looking to build. Most steam showers come in dimensions ranging between 3×4 to 4×7 and the initial costs of the steam room itself can range from $2,000 to upwards of $11,000. It’s a lot to pay, but if you’re looking for a much deeper and more relaxing cleanse than you could get from a normal shower, then this is the only way to go about it.

There is also equipment you’ll have to look at in order to get the steam pumping. It’s not enough to use your standard bathtub water heater, and the special new equipment will require a generator of its own to run in some cases. The costs of this equipment, for steam rooms of the same dimensions as listed above, can ring up between $900 and $1,500, bringing the total initial costs for installing a steam room to a range from $2,900 to $12,500. Of course, depending on what you want and how much you want to spend you can always go much more expensive, or cut some corners and drop the price down a bit.

Long-Term Costs

There aren’t too many here to mention. Aside from repairs (most of which will be covered by warranty) to the steam room equipment you’ll just have to regularly clean soap scum and grime from all surfaces. This is actually fairly simple for the majority of the tub, but it will be a little difficult to scrub it out of the grout. Don’t worry though, this is nothing too ferocious. And if you’re worried about running up utilities, don’t worry. Depending on how high-tech your steam shower is, you’ll be paying about 10 to 21 cents per hour while using the steam shower.

It’s definitely more expensive than your standard bathtub, but the long term benefits to both your mental and physical health cannot be overstated. If you have the means than steam rooms might be the thing for you, and customization may let you get it for cheaper than a modular steam room.
